The Silesian Voivodship is located in the southern part of Poland and in the south it borders on the Slovak Republic and Czech Republic, in the west - on the Opole Voivodship, in the north - on the Łódź Voivodship, and in the east - on the Małopolskie and Świętokrzyskie Voivodships.Almost 5 million people live on the area of 12,300 km2. In respect of the area, it ranks as the fourteenth voivodship in Poland, and as the second voivodship in respect of population. Silesian Voivodship is one of the most interesting and most attractive regions in Poland in terms of tourist values. It is here, in Częstochowa, in the Pauline Fathers' Monastery on Jasna Góra, where the "nation's heart beats". The Sanctuary with a miraculous painting of "Black Madonna" is visited every year by nearly five million pilgrims from all over the world. The mountain ranges of Beskid Śląski and Beskid Żywiecki as well as the areas of Jura Krakowsko-Częstochowska are ideal places to practise active tourism, both in winter and summer. The Castle of the Pszczyna Princes, along with the charming palace and park complex in Pszczyna, the medieval remains of the defensive castles along the "Eagles' Nests Trail" are the most precious objects on the long list of castles and palaces which formerly performed defensive or representative functions. In Silesia there are also unique monuments of former industry. The underground boat riding along the passages of the Historical Mine of Silver, Lead and Zinc Ores and the Black Trout Adit in Tarnowskie Góry, the "Queen Luisa" Monumental Coal Mine in Zabrze as well as the Brewing Museum in Tychy are places worth visiting. From the International Airport "Katowice" in Pyrzowice, you can fly directly to more than a dozen cities in Europe, Asia and Africa. Thanks to the best developed network of motorways and express roads in Poland, it is easy to reach us by car. The railway connections of the InterCity and EuroCity networks provide for a quick transfer to the capital of the region - Katowice - from other cities in Poland and Europe. |
