96% of the energy in Poland comes from coal. This could be the World's record as Treehugger noted on their website.

And it seems, they're not making it up. Poland is indeed amongst the biggest producers of coal energy. Take a look at the graph, with color red showing acid-rain high risk areas. Nowhere in Europe the things got as nasty as here. There's a good possibility for the western part of Poland to receive acid rainfall, while people living by the Belarussian / Ukrainian border will not be so much affected by hair loss.

It looks like we are in trouble. Government officials have been talking about alternative energy sources, also in the context of latest international climate summit. There are real chances for building one or two atomic plants in Poland, only the atomic energy is not considered "green" anymore. Windmills and watermills would be perfect, although quite expensive, but more imporant is, that if nothing's done to relieve the situation, the Europe's green patch, Poland is so proud about may soon become history.
Every now and then Treehugger suggests the following, which for me as a fish-lover comes as a sad piece of advice:

When in Poland, eat no fish
