I'm just back from my Halloween weekend, a holiday which in Poland does not yet resemble the "trick or treat" atmosphere present elsewhere in the world. The All Saint's Day is actually another name for an 24-hour event, when people venerate their deceased, visit family graves, put ever-burning candles on fire, pray and do all the stuff usual including a visit in the local church and for the greater part, a solemn family dinner together.

Starting some years, but not so long ago, kids and grownups alike started to dress up as witches, fairies and that kind of fable characters to feel the elsewhere well-known atmosphere of Halloween. "Trick or treat" game is played in local communities, and the kids usually get what they like although for the most of us it's still a very fresh and foreign-looking phenomenon.

Church does not necessarily like Halloween, which is understood, given the 1st of November should (in theory) be the day of moaning the dead. Nevertheless, this has already become a tradition, though of pagan genesis, very deeply rooted into lot of peoples' event agendas around the world without any regard to the indigenous religions or beliefs.
Halloween is definitely present in clubs and pubs, where special events to commemorate this day are held. You'd know the dress code anyway. Well, now it's gone and we have to wait another year for the "Day of the Dead" to come.
